In June, the SGN team of GEOEssential (Aidin Niamir and Marta Gómez Giménez) attended the workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Prof. Dr. Pedro Brancalion organized at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo. A group of researchers and policy experts met to discuss the status of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a global scale. In particular, we focused on the SDGs 6: clean water and sanitation, 14: life below water, and 15: life on land. Regional workshop on UNCCD reporting, 12-15 March 2018, Antalya, Turkey

From 12 of 15 of March of 2018 Deputy director of Space Research Institute NASU-SSAU Prof. Nataliia Kussul participated in Regional workshop on UNCCD training for the countries on NMED/CEE and Central Asia that was held in Antalya and funded by UNEP/GEF Global Support Programme. GEOEssential Workshop on Workflows, Palma de Majorca, Spain, 23-25 April 2018

One of the main goals of the GEOEssential project is to create cross-thematic workflows to evaluate, predict and monitor natural resources to inform via Earth Observations the Sustainable Development Goals, and other relevant environmental policy at European and national scales. The GEOEssential workshop organized in 23 – 25 April, 2018, in Palma de Mallorca, was focused on practically defining and executing these cross-thematic workflows, using the Virtual Laboratory (VLab) – cloud-based platform, developed by one of our partners – Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – CNR. Ukraine – Cooperation Agreement signed by Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, h Institute NAS Ukraine and SSA Ukraine

On the 7-th of March 2018 a cooperation agreement between Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and Space Research(SRI NASU-SSAU) was signed. Ukraine is a party of international programs, conventions and initiatives (including ones on the UN level) for environmental monitoring, in particular the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, etc. As part of this activity, international institutions require from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine to create land cover maps for the whole country on a regular basis and assess existing changes in land use.
